Excellent news - ATTWOOD THRILLED TO COMMIT TO BATH RUGBY

Bath Rugby is pleased confirm that Dave Attwood has renewed his contract with the Club.

The second row has made 113 appearances for Bath since joining in 2011 from Gloucester, and has 20 England caps to his name. Attwood has started four of the Club’s five matches this season, including last weekend’s Champions Cup match against Leinster in which the 28-year-old was pivotal to securing victory.

“I'm thrilled to be able to be able to put pen to paper for another three years here at Bath,” said Attwood. “I feel like this club has massive ambitions and is one of the few clubs in Europe that has the components in place to achieve them. I love this city and the Rec, and the current playing squad and coaching set-up is hugely impressive. Right now in my career I want silverware, and my belief in this team’s ability to secure some was a prime reason why I wanted to stay put.”

Head Coach Mike Ford added: “Dave is a considerable asset to our team, as was evident against Leinster on Saturday. He was desperately unlucky not to make the World Cup with England, but we believe he’s in the best place here at Bath to push on for further international honours, in addition to taking this team forward.”

Wales lock Luke Charteris agrees two-year deal with Bath Rugby

Wales lock Luke Charteris has agreed a two-year deal to move to Bath Rugby, according to reports.

According to L'Equipe, the 32-year-old - out of contract with Racing 92 at the end of the season - has committed to a move to the Rec from 2016/17.

It follows reports earlier this month that he was close to sealing a switch from the Top 14 to the Aviva Premiership.

When asked about the speculation, Bath coach Mike Ford refused to rule out a move for the 6ft 9ins star who has been capped 62 times by Wales.

Bath sign Scotland forward David Denton from Edinburgh

Bath have signed Scotland back-row forward David Denton from Edinburgh, in a deal to offset the loss of Sam Burgess.

Denton should link up with Bath later this week, following completion of a medical.

Bath have finally settled on recruiting the Zimbabwe-born 25-year-old after failing to sign Taulupe Faletau.

The west country club were also understood to have shown strong interest in Schalk Burger and Louis Picamoles in their bid to replace Burgess, who has returned to rugby league and South Sydney.

Burgess' union conversion lasted just 12 months, with the dual-code international returning to Australia after England's dismal World Cup campaign.

"We've been looking to bolster our back-row for some time now so we're very excited that David is joining us," said Bath head coach Mike Ford.

"He had an excellent World Cup especially in the quarter-final where he managed to outshine one of the best Australian back rows I've seen for a long time.

"He's going to fit in very well with the team and the way we play here."

Bath had closed to the very cusp of completing a deal for Newport Gwent Dragons back-rower Faletau before the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) vetoed the deal.

Welsh bosses denied Faletau's transfer request, but the 24-year-old seems bound to leave the Dragons when his contract expires in the summer.

The Recreation Ground outfit had also targeted South Africa's Duane Vermeulen in the summer, only for the Springboks number eight to join Toulon instead.

Now Ford finally has a high-profile signing to ease the pain of losing Burgess, the league convert Bath had pinned their hopes on becoming a talismanic figure at the club.

EXCLUSIVE: Wales lock Luke Charteris poised to exit Top 14 and switch to Bath

WALES second row Luke Charteris is poised for a move to Bath.

The lock is believed to be on the point of agreeing a deal to switch to the Aviva Premiership for next season. Charteris joined Racing 92, then known as Racing Metro, on a two-year contract last term, having previously had a couple of seasons with Perpignan.

Before heading to France, he had spent nine years with the Dragons, later claiming that he had only left for the Top 14 after being unable to secure a central contract or a package with one of the other three regions, with Welsh rugby's civil war between the WRU and the professional sides unfolding at the time.

Sam Burgess leaves Bath Rugby to join South Sydney Rabbitohs

It is being reported by the BBC that Sam Burgess has left Bath with immediate effect in order to return to his former rugby league side South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The 26-year-old has two years left on a three-year contract with the club after joining in October last year and Bath owner Bruce Craig told reporters on Wednesday he must see it out.

Speaking at the launch of the European Rugby Champions Cup at Twickenham Stoop, Mr Craig reiterated what head coach Mike Ford had said on Tuesday - that Burgess had not asked to leave the club.
