Former South African assistant coach, Gary Gold, is the favourite to take over at Bath in an end-of-season shake-up that is set to bring to an end the full-time involvement of Sir Ian McGeechan.
Gold is currently interim head coach at Newcastle.
The dismal 26-6 defeat by Northampton at the Recreation Ground on Saturday has brought matters to a head. Bruce Craig, the multi-millionaire entrepreneur who took charge of the club two years ago, has been dismayed by recent performances and wants to accelerate a long-standing need for change.
