This weeks Chronicle articles on Bath Rugby
I remember reading somewhere that the UK had more CCTV cameras per square mile than any other country. Now it looks like professional rugby clubs are going to help add to that tally – but in a good way.
Premiership Rugby, the umbrella group representing the English game's top-tier sides, is conducting an experiment to see whether television match officials should be installed at every game.

Battered Bath Rugby lose out to table-topping Harlequins in bruising Premiership clash
Harlequins 14, Bath Rugby 6
In a game in which the number of yellow cards equalled the number of try-scoring opportunities, Bath Rugby could leave The Stoop pondering how on earth they failed to earn at least a losing bonus point.
Harlequins didn't lead until the 64th minute in a bruising stop-start contest, and Bath could feel a sense of grievance at the final whistle.

Statement: The Real Friends of the Rec - Bath Rugby Purchase Lambridge
For members who have not already seen the announcement Bath Rugby have completed their purchase of the Lambridge Training Ground from Bath Football Club Trustees Ltd.
This is a significant step forward as it means that Bath Rugby could donate the Lambridge Ground to the Bath Recreation Ground Trust in order to alleviate the 'detriments' caused by Bath Rugby taking on a larger footprint on the Rec. This would bring to fruition the idea of a 'land swap' to resolve the long standing issues at the Rec that was first mooted at the RFOTR AGM in January 2009.
We are now awaiting the successful conclusion of the ongoing discussions between the Recreation Ground Trust and the Charity Commission.

David Flatman: Lancaster worked his way to the top, now leave him there
To say Lancaster stumbled into this caretaker role would be to undersell the work he put in as the coach of the A team (I still battle to say "Saxons") and as the RFU's Head of Elite Player Development. These are roles that, with just a handful of matches every year, could be loafed through with minimum maintenance and a few nice holidays, courtesy of the RFU gravy train.

The last time these two sides met, Bath Rugby owner Bruce Craig was forced to witness a torrid display at Sixways – a display whose only crumb of comfort was that a replacement prop did a manful job filling in at second row.
But what a transformation. Bath may have been a bit stodgy in the opening ten minutes of Saturday's clash at The Rec but, after they had been slapped around the chops by Tom Arscott's try for Worcester, it was an afternoon of attacking panache and high-skill, high-tempo rugby.

But what a transformation. Bath may have been a bit stodgy in the opening ten minutes of Saturday's clash at The Rec but, after they had been slapped around the chops by Tom Arscott's try for Worcester, it was an afternoon of attacking panache and high-skill, high-tempo rugby.

Old Rivalries, Bath v Leicester Tigers, Friday, 9 March 2012
On Friday, 9 March, Bath Rugby will do battle with traditional rivals Leicester Tigers, to win a coveted place in the LV=Cup final. Games against the Tigers are always fierce encounters producing some gripping and gritty rugby from both sides. This game will be no different and the prospect of silverware will add further spice into the mix.
With a try bonus point in each LV=Cup game so far this season, Bath Rugby have scored 24 tries so far in the competition, with perhaps the pick of the bunch being Anthony Perenise's barnstorming 40 metre try against Northampton Saints.
Kicking off at 7:30pm, there are still tickets available for this crunch fixture.

David Flatman: Welcome back, Danny boy wonder – now get your head down and play
We have a remarkable habit in this country, whether we like it or not, for building up young rugby players before they are quite in a position to live up to their assumed hype. As a rookie dipping his chubby toe into the rough and unforgiving waters of rugby writing, I am as guilty as the next key-tapper. Only last week I was calling Owen Farrell's performance "stunning"; I appear to have been caught up in it all.

Bath making plans to axe head coach McGeechan
Bath are understood to be drawing up a shortlist of candidates to replace Sir Ian McGeechan in the summer and are keeping a close eye on Andy Robinson's position at Scotland.
The West Country club are believed to be unhappy with yet another season of underachievement that looks likely to end without a top-six place in the Aviva Premiership, which means another failure to qualify for the Heineken Cup.

French clubs rule the roost, says Steve Meehan
Steve Meehan left Bath at the end of last season, having seen his position as head coach eroded from within by a management who not only recruited Sir Ian McGeechan as performance director over the Queenslander's head but also gave the great Lions sage increasing amounts of hands-on responsibility in the day-to-day preparation of the team. The club did their best to present Meehan's departure in a good light, but everyone with eyes to see knew it was a dark business.

Josh Ovens and Ben Williams are the latest players to extend their stay with Bath Rugby.
Both have come through the Bath Rugby Academy and stepped up to the challenge for regular first team slots.
Back row Josh is a powerful young player who has made over20 appearances for the Club so far. He has spent much of this season on loan to Bristol Rugby to ensure he got plenty of game time and has really impressed both in the Championship with Bristol, and for Bath when he has been called back.
