Tonight's showdown marked the beginning of a new West Country derby between Bath Rugby and Premiership newcomers Exeter Chiefs. With Bath's Boxing Day home fixture against the Chiefs being postponed due to a frozen pitch, the Devonshire outfit had the opportunity to use their home advantage and take first bragging rights.

Head coach Steve Meehan admitted it had been a bit of a 'slog' at times but said that Bath's 12-9 victory at Exeter Chiefs demonstrated the character of his side.
Bath found themselves under pressure in defence on several occasions during the match but held firm and forced a number of turnovers.
Meehan also praised the composure of Olly Barkley, who kicked the four penalties that secured the victory.
