Finding new faith - Stuart Barnes

Bath's St George's weekend performance against Wasps was breathtaking.

'Defences win games' is the great Shaun Edwards mantra; in England it has been accepted as a fact without question, a latter day sporting article of faith.

It has permeated to the international team from the club to international game. A devout pragmatist like Martin Johnson and his conservative cohorts needed little encouragement to adopt the destructive risk free territorial kick and chase game over the 'romantic' running stuff as he dismissed advocates of ambitious attacking rugby.
